Welcome!
Woodland Library Events
June may be the most exciting month at the Woodland Library, and that’s saying something! As I’m sure you all know, Planters Days comes to town June 18-21, and we’re part of the action. The Friends and the Library will have a float in the Parade to celebrate our summer of reading, and we’ll be giving out books for kids in the firehouse on Saturday. Come by if you have any questions about how to get involved!
Speaking of summer reading, the 2026 program officially starts on June 15, with the Woodland kickoff party happening on Thursday the 18th, right after the extremely popular Creature Teachers program at 11 am! This year the library will have challenges, events, and prizes for kids, teens, and adults (free books for everyone this year!). Woodland and nearby libraries will have so many fun programs this summer to encourage reading, literacy, curiosity, and exploration. You can find more information here.
This month I was asked if the library has 1) groups for writers and 2) classes for learning to sew. I was happy to say YES to both! Join the popular Woodland Writers Group on 6/12 and 6/26, adult sewing 101 on 6/27, and teen sewing 101 on 6/29. Thank you to the staff for providing services and programs that serve our community interests!
There are many more events this month to explore! Click on the calendar to see a bigger picture and zoom in, and click here for more information on the events this month at Woodland. You can use the filters and links on that page to find events all over the district and online.
Upcoming Fun!
Woodland Friends will hold booksales this year on the following dates:
June 12 (10-6) and 13 (10-2)
September 11 (10-6) and 12 (10-2)
We look forward to seeing you soon!
We will be celebrating the 250th anniversary (or “semiquincentennial”, as I just learned) of the signing of the Declaration of Independence (America250!) on July 3rd from 1-3 pm. We’ll have music, performers, snacks, and contests for kids and teens. Everyone is invited to celebrate this milestone! (Please note our celebration is on July 3rd, not July 4th.) If you’d like to help with this event, please email friendsofwoodlandlibrary@gmail.com.
The featured author at this year’s Authors and Illustrators fundraiser has been announced! AMY TAN, literary icon, National Humanities Medalist, birder, and sometime Rock Bottom Remainders tambourinist, will grace the stage of the Vancouver Hilton on October 6th. Keep an eye on fvrlf.org and get your tickets early.
Get Involved at the Library!
We very much appreciate everyone who came out to help with the book sales, levy, and all of the summer reading events. We always like to see new people getting involved! You can always contact the Friends at friendsofwoodlandlibrary@gmail.com for information on our events and volunteer opportunities, or stop by our meeting on the second Thursday of the month at 1 pm at the library. (For March, that will be the 12th.)
Washington Library Association Honors Woodland Library Friends
We are so very thrilled to announce that the Friends of the Woodland Library have received the Volunteer Leadership Award from the Washington Library Association. This award recognizes the commitment our Friends have made and the time and energy they expended towards opening the new library in Woodland in October 2024. Some of the ladies in the photo above have been working towards this goal for over a decade! As “library people,” we’re not always used to accolades, and we continue to be motivated by our shared love of books and this community. We are grateful to all of our volunteers and community partners over the years, to the WLA, and to the FVRL staff who nominated the Friends. What do you think we can accomplish in the next ten years?
Our new library is OPEN!
The long-awaited grand opening of the new Woodland Community Library took place October 12! We were thrilled to welcome over 500 of you to have snacks provided by Friends and the VFW, hear performances by the Minidoka Swing Band and Woodland High School Jazz Choir, and cheer on Branch Manager Jennifer Hauan while she cut the ribbon to welcome the community to your NEW library. We are all very excited to finally unveil the space! Our new address is 411 Lakeshore Drive and we can’t wait to show it off! An immense thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who volunteered and donated to make this happen.
