Welcome!
Woodland Library Events
The incredible Woodland staff have planned something for everyone in March! Kids, teens, and adults who love arts & crafts, board games, and (of course) reading will have plenty to choose from this month, including the very popular family storytimes throughout the month, adult book club on 3/16, junk journallers on 3/21, teen/tween tabletop gaming on 3/10 and 3/24, and much more.
Woodland will also host some standout special programs in March. First comes the return of the Master Gardeners on 3/25 to teach you how to grow a vegetable garden! Bookmark that one for sure. Your kids will have a hands-on chance to dig into some science with “An In-Depth Look at Owl Pellets” on 3/30 at 4 pm for ages 5-12. And adults have a chance to make a fun craft as well on 3/27!
Click here for more information on the events this month at Woodland. You can use the filters and links on that page to find events all over the district and online. (You’ve probably noticed by now that FVRL has a new website. There’s also a new app called “MyFVRL” which you can download on your device of choice. Feel free to ask a staff member if you need help navigating the new site.)
Upcoming Fun!

It’s no surprise that I don’t always get this newsletter out on time, so I want to highlight a special event in early April, part of Woodland’s celebration of “Spring Break at Your Library!” Rhys Thomas Science Circus will visit Woodland for a juggling-education combo performance! (I can attest that juggling taught me a lot about science. Mostly about gravity.) Mark your calendar for April 6th at 1 pm and visit here for more Spring Break events across the district.
We had a great turnout and even better feedback about our local author talk with the Woodland Historical Museum Society featuring Cowlitz County historian Ted Gruber. Friends and staff are planning another talk later this year, so stay tuned! If you have ideas about future authors we could work with, let us know! (You can email friendsofwoodlandlibrary@gmail.com.)
Speaking of author events, the featured author at this year’s Authors and Illustrators fundraiser has been announced! AMY TAN, literary icon, National Humanities Medalist, birder, and sometime Rock Bottom Remainders tambourinist, will grace the stage of the Vancouver Hilton on October 6th. Keep an eye on fvrlf.org and get your tickets early.
Woodland Friends will hold booksales this year on the following dates:
June 12 (10-6) and 13 (10-1)
September 11 (10-6) and 12 (10-1)
We look forward to seeing you soon!
Get Involved at the Library!
We very much appreciate everyone who came out to help with the book sales, levy, and all of the summer reading events. We always like to see new people getting involved! You can always contact the Friends at friendsofwoodlandlibrary@gmail.com for information on our events and volunteer opportunities, or stop by our meeting on the second Thursday of the month at 1 pm at the library. (For March, that will be the 12th.)
Washington Library Association Honors Woodland Library Friends
We are so very thrilled to announce that the Friends of the Woodland Library have received the Volunteer Leadership Award from the Washington Library Association. This award recognizes the commitment our Friends have made and the time and energy they expended towards opening the new library in Woodland in October 2024. Some of the ladies in the photo above have been working towards this goal for over a decade! As “library people,” we’re not always used to accolades, and we continue to be motivated by our shared love of books and this community. We are grateful to all of our volunteers and community partners over the years, to the WLA, and to the FVRL staff who nominated the Friends. What do you think we can accomplish in the next ten years?
Our new library is OPEN!
The long-awaited grand opening of the new Woodland Community Library took place October 12! We were thrilled to welcome over 500 of you to have snacks provided by Friends and the VFW, hear performances by the Minidoka Swing Band and Woodland High School Jazz Choir, and cheer on Branch Manager Jennifer Hauan while she cut the ribbon to welcome the community to your NEW library. We are all very excited to finally unveil the space! Our new address is 411 Lakeshore Drive and we can’t wait to show it off! An immense thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who volunteered and donated to make this happen.
